One of the first strategic calls for any app is which platform to build for. In the GCC the answer is rarely “just pick one”.
The GCC device landscape
iOS has an unusually strong presence across the Gulf — iPhones are popular in Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, especially among higher-spend audiences. At the same time, Android holds a large share regionally. For most consumer products aimed at the GCC, both platforms matter.
Who is your audience?
- Premium / lifestyle products for affluent Gulf users often see iOS-first behaviour.
- Mass-market or price-sensitive products usually can’t ignore Android.
- Enterprise / internal apps follow whatever devices the workforce already uses.
Native vs cross-platform
A well-built cross-platform app can cover iOS and Android from one codebase — cutting cost and keeping the experience consistent — while native is worth it when you need maximum performance or deep platform features.
Our recommendation
For most GCC consumer apps, plan for both platforms — but you can de-risk by launching a lean MVP where your core audience lives first, then expanding. Tell us about your audience and we’ll advise.
